Vishnupuram Literary Circle UK organised a three-day introductory class on Western philosophy, conducted by the writer Ajithan, from 28 to 30 November 2025.
Much of how we think now — democracy, individual freedom — rests on Western philosophical foundations. To put our own thinking in order, it helps to meet these philosophers directly and understand what they actually argued. The classes introduced the tradition from ancient Greek thought through the Renaissance to the modern schools.
Read in the present moment, these ideas are what allow us to think about our own lives, and about contemporary politics, with reason and with some sense of history.

2025 நவம்பர் 28 முதல் 30 வரை, விஷ்ணுபுரம் இலக்கிய வட்டம் (பிரிட்டன்) சார்பாக எழுத்தாளர் அஜிதன் நடத்திய மூன்று நாள் மேற்கத்தியத் தத்துவ அறிமுக வகுப்பு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது.
ஜனநாயகம், தனிமனித சுதந்திரம் போன்ற நமது நவீனச் சிந்தனைகள் பெரும்பாலும் மேற்கத்தியத் தத்துவங்களை அடித்தளமாகக் கொண்டவை. நமது சிந்தனைகளை ஒழுங்குபடுத்திக்கொள்ள, அந்தத் தத்துவஞானிகளை நேரடியாக அறிமுகம் செய்துகொள்வதும் அவர்களின் கோட்பாடுகளைப் புரிந்துகொள்வதும் மிக முக்கியம். பண்டைய கிரேக்கச் சிந்தனை தொடங்கி மறுமலர்ச்சி வழியாக நவீனத் தத்துவக் கோட்பாடுகள் வரை இந்த வகுப்புகள் அறிமுகப்படுத்தின.
இன்றைய சூழலில், நமது வாழ்வையும் சமகால அரசியலையும் குறித்துப் பகுத்தறிவுடனும் வரலாற்றுணர்வுடனும் சிந்திக்க இவை இன்றியமையாதவை.
